Dr Hannah August PhD, MA


School of English and Media Studies

I grew up in Dunedin and completed an Honours degree in Classics at the University of Otago, followed by a second Honours year in English Literature at Victoria University of Wellington. I went to England as a Commonwealth Scholar in 2007, where I completed my MA in Shakespearean Studies and my PhD in English Literature, both at King's College London. I've been working in the School of English and Media Studies at Massey since 2017.

Research Expertise

Research Interests

I am interested in early modern drama in print and performance, and in the study of the reception of early modern literature more broadly, particularly its material contexts. I am further interested in the contemporary performance of Shakespeare in post-colonial contexts, and in feminist contemporary performance.
