Entry requirements

Students who have completed one of the following may be admitted to the 180 credit version:

  • a  relevant Bachelor’s degree with a minimum B- grade average over the 200/300 level courses OR
  • a relevant Bachelor’s degree combined with extensive relevant professional experience

Students who have completed one of the following may be admitted to the 120 credit version:

  • a Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant health related discipline OR
  • the Bachelor of Health Science with Honours

Master of Health Science (Environmental Health) structure

180 Credit version

This is a parts-based programme, offering either a professional or research pathway of study.  At least a B- grade average is required to progress from Part One under the Professional route, whilst at least a B grade average is required to progress from Part One under the Research route. 

Students who do not meet the minimum grade average required for progression may be exited with a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science if they meet the requirements.

Professional Pathway

Part One: Students will complete the following compulsory courses

168.713 Evidence-Based Practice (30 credits)
231.707 Environmental Health (30 credits)

60 credits from courses listed on the programme schedule – please refer to the 'Regulations' button for a full list of offerings

Part Two

250.816 Professional Project (60 credits) OR
250.817 Research Report (60 credits)

Research Pathway

Part One: Students will complete the following compulsory courses

Either 168.711 Health Research Design and Method or 179.702 Advanced Research Methods and 231.707 Environmental Health

Up to 30 credits from courses listed on the programme schedule – please refer to the 'Regulations' button for a full list of offerings

Part Two

Either a 120 credit thesis 

250.814 Thesis Part One (60 credits) and
250.815 Thesis Part Two (60 credits

Or

214.897 Thesis Part One (60 credits) and
214.898 Thesis Part Two (60 credits)

Or a 90 credit thesis

250.811 Thesis Part One (45 credits) and
250.812 Thesis Part Two (45 credits)

If completed with sufficient merit and within 18 months of full-time or 4 years of part-time study, this qualification may be awarded with Distinction or Merit.

120 Credit version

This can be completed by one of the following options:

  • 60 credits of courses selected from Part One followed by a 60 credit research report or professional project OR
  • 30 credits of courses selected from Part One followed by a 90 credit thesis OR
  • 120 credit thesis

If completed with sufficient merit and within 1 year of full-time or 3 years of part-time study, this qualification may be awarded with Distinction or Merit.

Transition Regulations

Students enrolled in the Master of Health Science prior to January 2019 may substitute courses already taken for courses at the same level within Part One of the Schedule.  This provision expires December 2022.
