Ko te manu e kai i te miro nōna te wao tapu nui a Tāne Mahuta. Ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga nōna te ao.
The bird that feasts of the miro belongs to the great forest of Tane. The person that draws sustenance from knowledge the world is theirs to conquer.
There is an urgent need for Māori graduates of high quality and particularly Te Reo Māori graduates who can develop the nation's young Māori people.
The primary aim of this programme is to provide a professional initial teacher education undergraduate programme which meets the requirements of Kura Kaupapa Māori, of Māori language immersion schools, and of the teaching profession. This university degree provides student teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to become effective practitioners and meet the academic requirements necessary to constitute a sound foundation for the pursuit of advanced study at postgraduate level.
The Te Aho Tātairangi: Bachelor of Teaching Māori Medium/Diploma in Māori Education programme is a four-year degree for future Māori educators i roto i te reo. A full-time programme, this course is designed for competent speakers of Te Reo Māori.
Graduates of this professional initial teacher education programme will have attained knowledge and skills to enter teaching in primary schools. They will be eligible to apply for registration as provisionally registered teachers with the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand and to become a provisionally certificated teacher.
The special character of this programme is that it will open many avenues of education, business and pleasure that require "Māori Language and Tikanga." As a graduate of this programme you will have the sound theoretical grounding and practical knowledge to meet the requirements of kura kaupapa Māori.
